Construction Materials, Methods, & Specifications  Committee
This committee will provide a forum by which industry professionals can seek solutions to underground material specification & installation method issues brought to light by the membership.

The Construction Materials, Methods, and Specifications Committee was started in 2005.  This committee is participating with other professional organizations in an effort to revise and rewrite the Standard Specifications for Water and Sewer Main Construction in Illinois.  We have had good involvement from our contractor members and associates alike.  Every meeting has seen increased involvement from new members.  All of the participation has made working on this committee very exciting.

This committee has elected a group of individuals to represent the interest of UCA with the larger state group.  This group is being led by John Scapin (Neslund Construction) and Bruce Mellen (Neptune Construction).  These members have been participating in the statewide meetings and contributing to the direction that the new state standards will be heading.

The state group has broken out into smaller task groups entrusted with the responsibility of concentrating on smaller topics.  The following groups have been created by the statewide organization:

  • DIVISION l - GENERAL REQUIREMENTS AND COVENANTS

  • DIVISION ll - EXCAVATION AND CLEAN UP

  • DIVISION lll - SANITARY SEWERS AND STORM SEWERS

  • DIVISION lV - WATER DISTRIBUTION

  • DIVISION V - STANDARD DRAWINGS

  • DIVISION Vl - STANDARD FORMS

These groups will take in information from experts and make recommendations to the statewide group for revisions.  The state group will then vote to make any changes or not.  For those of you interested in contributing to any of these  topics or other topics in the Spec Book, or if you are interested in joining this committee, please contact Dave Benjamin, UCA Executive Director, at 630-467-1919.

The Construction Materials, Methods, and Specifications Committee is scheduled to meet on the following dates in 2010.*
